Bragadiru Parish is part of Bragadiru City, Ilfov County.

Before the church you see today, there was another church in the spirits factory courtyard, where the current church’s founding inscription lays. It was built in 1851 by the Steward Alexandru Scarlat Ghica, during the time of Nifon, who was Bishop of Ungrovlahia.

Today`s church, dedicated to Saint Dimitrie, was founded by the family Dumitru Marinescu Bragadiru, built between 1897- 1899 and sanctified on the 26th of Octomber 1899, as says the inscription.

There is no available information about the handicraftsmen, engineers and the architect who made up the church design.

The church is cross-shaped, having two towers, a large one at the Pantocrator (Almighty) and a smaller one at the main entrance, which served as a bell tower before 1934.

The walls are made of brick and the roof of metal. Inside the church, the floor is made of cement mixed up with mosaic.

It was painted by Anton Serafim just like the rood screen.

The parochial house was built in 1932 and the bell tower in 1934.

Among the priests who served here, we mention Ilie Ionescu- Sachelarie, deceased in the year 1928, who served from when the church was built.

The first restoration of the church took place in 1928, as the small inscription reads: “This church was restored in the year 1928 by Mr. D. D. Bragadiru, dr. G. Ghiorghian, and Mr. G. Mironescu and the people of the Commune Bragadiru, with the insistence of the priests Tache Simionescu and Alecu Pastrama”.

Between 1972 and 1974, the church was renovated trough the care of Father Petre Tecuceanu, and the sanctification was made by P. S. Roman Ialomiteanu.

On the 1st of November 1989, Father Gheorghe Cheran joined.

On the 6th of August 1996 Father Florin David joined.

Between 1993 and 1994 the church roof was re-painted, there were certain consolidation works, and the exterior was re-done.

In the year 1997 the interior painting was restored by Marin Bonea of Varasti, Giurgiu County, under the care of Father Gheorghe Cheran, and Father Florin David, and with the help of the people of Bragadiru Commune.

Between the years 2003 and 2004, the bell tower was re-built, the exterior painting was made, the metal roof was changed to another metal roof, and central heating was installed and the church courtyard was arranged. The sanctification service was performed by PS Ambrozie Sinaitul.

In 2007 the church furniture and carpets were changed, by Father Gheorghe Cheran, Father Florin David, the churchwarden Cornel Petcu, and the people of Bragadiru City.
